What We’re All About

Pamphlets for Problematic & Questionable Content

From the time that general studies were
introduced into the curriculum of Yeshivos,
Gedolim have been concerned about the
problematic content found in the general
studies curriculum. From Rav Hirsch zatza”l
to yblch”t Rav Ahron Feldman shilit”a and Rav
Ahron Shecheter shilt”a, many Gedolim have
warned against the spiritual dangers lurking
in the secular textbooks and curriculum.
Whether it is issues of kefira found in Earth
Science, inappropriate diagrams and topics in
Living Environment, or the inclusion of the
study of other religions in Global History,
these texts and curriculum contain content
that is very troubling from the frum
perspective. When these ideas and pictures
are presented to our
youth in an unfiltered fashion, it exposes their
neshamos to influences and ideas that are
antithetical to Yiddishkeit.

Responding to this pressing need, Rav Moshe
Brody, founder of the Limudai Yisroel Institute
and talmid muvhak of Rav Chaim Yisroel Belsky
zatza”l, prepared and published under the
direction of Rav Belsky z’l specialized pamphlets
dealing with these issues in a halachically
and hashkafically acceptable way. More
recently, the Institute (under the supervision
of a Vaad of Rabbanim which includes Rav
Ahron Feldman shlit”a, Rav Yisroel Reisman
shlit”a and Rav Elya Brudney shlit”a) has set
out to prepare a new set of pamphlets reflecting
Rav Feldman’s approach to these topics
giving guidance to those that wish to study
these topics from a Torah standpoint.

Kosher Regents Review Books

Many schools have opted to deal with the issues in the current curriculum by omitting the problematic areas all together. However, not wishing to have their students’ grades suffer, they nevertheless allow their students to answer these questions on the State’s Regents exams. Students who wish to excel on their exams have no alternative but to use the popular unfiltered review books on the market to prepare for the examinations.

In 2013, Brody’s Regent Review™, a publication of Limudai Chol Publications™, stepped in to provide a resolution to this problem. Rabbi Brody, working alongside Rav Belsky zatza”l, created
kosher Regents review books for those wishing to learn and review their courses in kosher way. Presently there are three kosher review books
available: Brody’s Regent Review: Living Environment Yeshiva Version, Brody’s Regent Review: Earth science Yeshiva Version, Brody’s Regent Review: Global History Yeshiva Version.

Kosher Textbooks

A Historic first!

The Limudai Yisroel Institute and its publishing arm, Limudai Chol Publications is proud to present the first kosher Earth Science workbook ever produced. This textbook works seamlessly alongside the pamphlets mentioned above for those wishing to study those topics. This kosher workbook, will protect our future doros from the harmful influences found in today’s textbooks and will also prepare them academically to master the State mandated topics found in this course. New Torah based general studies Curriculum

For many decades now, the curriculum, even the aspects that do not contain negative influences, remained almost completely devoid of any Torah benefits. While Rav Hirsch envisioned a complimentary secular education that would work hand in hand with the limudai Kodesh, unfortunately, in most schools, the secular material remains completely devoid of Torah content, and for a large portion of the student body, is meaningless as well. Rising to this challenge, the Limudai Yisroel Institute has assembled a team of Talmidai Chachamim, General studies teachers and professionals
to create an academically challenging curriculum that weaves Torah, Yiras shamayim and Jewish connections into the general studies curricula. The Institute has also assembled a Vaad Harabbanim composed of some of the senior Roshay yeshiva in America to give guidance to the Institute on its
creation of the curriculum. Additionally, adapting to the reality of technology in the classrooms, the Institute has prepared highly stimulating PowerPoint slides that can be used on Smart Boards and which forms the basis of
this new curriculum.

Teacher training for Bnai Torah and Mechanchim

For many decades now, boys Yeshivos have relied on secular teachers to teach general studies. This inclusion of secular teachers into our Yeshivos Hakedoshos further exposes our youth to subtle and overt negative influences of the general society. However, recently due to a confluence of circumstances, even those Yeshivos that wish to hire secular teachers have been hard pressed to find qualified teachers-leaving many Yeshivos facing an unprecedented shortage of teachers. In response to the general studies teacher shortage, the Limudai Yisroel Institute with the blessings of Gedolai Yisroel shlit”a, has begun a teacher training institute to train bnai Torah, specifically yungerliet and mechanchim, to become general studies teachers in our Yeshivos. Utilizing these new methods of Torah integration, and armed with the new Kosher textbooks and media, a fresh group of bnai Torah have begun training in our host yeshiva- Yeshivas Zichron Aryeh in Bayswater, Queens. Our first group of graduates are expected to enter the field for the upcoming school year 2017-2018.

Kosher Textbook Loan Fund

Recognizing the financial challenges tuition paying parents and Yeshivos face, and the tremendous costs associated with buying new kosher texts and Torah based curriculum out of pocket, the Limudai Yisroel Institute has launched a NYSTL style fund to help Yeshivos and parents purchase these new educational materials and books.

As with NYSTL (the New York State
Textbook Law), our fund will IY"H subsidize kosher and Torah based books for Yeshivos and parents looking for alternatives to the secular textbooks
found in today’s Yeshivos and Bais Yaakov’s.
